Work is wide and varied and includes working with foster families, children home and unaccompanied minors of all ages in refugee centres, children with special needs, juvenile justice work and behavioural problems. The predominantly used methodologies include child-focused mediation, biography work, education without violence and interventions based on the competence of the child.

Research relies on qualitative research that is theory-based.

Professionals and organizations who work in the field are supported through training and coaching opportunities.  Pre-service training is conducted by Higher Education and Vocational training bodies. Available qualifications include certificate, Bachelor's degree and Master's degrees in Social Work, Education and Social Pedagogy.
