The main award in the category „Erasmus+: Youth in Action“ went to the „International Youth Exchange: Be the change!“, coordinated by FICE Austria in Vienna in August 2016.

FICE International and its members have put much effort in activities to support care leavers worldwide. FICE International has a long-term tradition of organizing child and youth exchanges, dating back to the 1950s when children's communities from 9 European countries participated in 2-week youth camps in Luxembourg and Germany.

Furthermore, FICE Congresses(once in 3 years) are usually organized together with youth exchanges. This was the case of youth exchange "Be the change" which took place together with the 33rd FICE Congress and 2nd CYC World Conference "Together Towards a Better World for Children, Adolescents and Families", Vienna, 2016.

More than 50 young Care Leavers from 15 countries came together in this youth exchange to share their experiences, future plans, hopes and dreams and to work out together 10 standards for the transition to an independent life. The culmination of the youth exchange was the involvement in the 33rd FICE Congress and 2nd CYC World Conference with more than 600 professionals and experts from the field of child and youth care from all over the world. The standards were presented by the young adults in different settings and officially recognised by FICE International and the CYC-Net.

The project was coordinated by FICE Austria and supported by the EU Programme ERASMUS+: Youth in Action, FICE International, FICE Switzerland, UNICEF Austria, the partner organisations and many other sponsors. The Austrian Youth Award was granted this year for the second time by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Family Affairs and Youth (BMFJ).
