FICE Italia – Coordinamento Nazionale delle Comunità di Tipo Familiare per i Minorenni (CNCM)

Short history

The Coordinamento Nazionale delle Comunità di Tipo Familiare per i Minorenni (CNCM) was founded on 22 May 1990 by a number of child and youth care communities from across Italy. The association is based in Florence.

CNCM brings together organisations operating family-type residential care communities for children and young people, including public institutions, social cooperatives, religious organisations, family homes and associations.

Mission

CNCM promotes family-type residential care communities as an important response to situations of family crisis and the need to protect children and young people.

While respecting the different educational approaches and organisational models of its member communities, CNCM's work is guided by the principles of children's rights as recognised by the United Nations.

Main activities

  • Bringing together organisations and professionals involved in family-type residential care for children and young people.

  • Promoting exchange, discussion and learning among professionals and organisations working in child and youth care.

  • Organising conferences and professional meetings on the needs of children and adolescents, residential care and educational practice.
