Short history – when is founded, important changes, the goal, mission, vision:
RMIT is a global university of technology and design and Australia’s largest tertiary institution. The University enjoys an international reputation for excellence in practical education and outcome-oriented research.
RMIT is a leader in technology, design, global business, communication, global communities, health solutions and urban sustainable futures.
RMIT has three campuses in Melbourne, Australia, and two in Vietnam. We offer programs through partners in Singapore, Hong Kong, mainland China, Malaysia, India and Europe. We enjoy research and industry partnerships on every continent.
The University’s student population of 74,000 includes 30,000 international students, of whom more than 17,000 are taught offshore (almost 6,000 at RMIT Vietnam).
Since 1887 our inner-city campus has grown up with the City of Melbourne, from the 1880s boom through periods of war, depression and renewed prosperity during the latter half of the twentieth century. Since the 1990s, the institution has acquired campuses in Bundoora and Brunswick in the city’s northern suburbs, and in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi in Vietnam, through which we take an active role in developing communities.
From the beginning, staff and students have always been attracted to RMIT because of its strengths in teaching and research, industry linkages, reputation for creativity and innovation, and the talent and vision of its academic leaders.
RMIT’s vision is to be:
global in attitude, action and presence, offering our students a global passport to learning and work;li>
urban in orientation and creativity, shaping sustainable cities and drawing inspiration from the challenges and opportunities they provide; and
connected through active partnerships with professions, industries and organisations to support the quality, reach and impact of our education and research.li>
